This is our vision for Tomorrow's Wales. A sustainable, energy-secure, climate resilient nation that enjoys the benefits of the transition to renewable energy.

Through the production of clean, green energy systems, we are not only protecting the environment but also benefiting the economy, enhancing wellbeing and increasing our energy security in an increasingly volatile world.

We are acting for the voices not yet heard, providing cleaner energy for a clearer future. Our projects don’t just power homes, they power opportunities.

What does Tomorrow's Wales look like?

The key benefits of the transition to renewable energy in Wales are significant, both immediately and over the long term.

Through considered engagement with the communities in which we work we have identified key benefits that people want to see our projects bring to the areas in which they live.

The Opportunity for Wales

We believe that the transition to renewable energy is essential for ensuring a sustainable, secure, and healthy future, leaving behind the Wales we want for generations to come.

This video from Renewable UK Cymru highlights a number of ways that Wales can benefit from the transition to a net zero world…

Economic

Job Creation

The growth of the renewables sector is creating highly skilled jobs in engineering, construction, and maintenance.

Local Investment

Large-scale infrastructure projects bring major investment into communities that traditionally have fewer economic opportunities by utilising local supply chains.

Export Potential

Large-scale infrastructure projects bring major investment into communities that traditionally have fewer economic opportunities by utilising local supply chains.

Security

Reduced dependence on imported fuels

The more energy we make at home, the less exposed we are to international crises. Building a strong renewable network in Wales is a frontline defence strategy — not just an environmental choice.

Stable, predictable supply

A diversified mix of renewable energy sources provide naturally recurring power which, although variable, evens out the supply curve across seasons and weather conditions.

Increased resilience

Traditional energy systems rely on a few large power plants — if one fails, huge areas can be blacked out. Renewable energy systems are like a web instead of a chain — if one strand breaks, the wider system still holds.

Environmental

Lower carbon emissions

Helps Wales meet its Net Zero targets (currently set for 2050) and reduces our dependence on fossil fuels.

Biodiversity protection

Carefully planned renewable projects like ours support habitat conservation and regeneration, protecting and enhancing the areas in which we work tackling the nature emergency.

Resilience to Climate Change

Local low carbon energy production helps fight the climate crisis and strengthens Wales' climate resilience.

Community

Reduced energy costs

Solar PV and onshore wind are now two of the cheapest forms of energy production. As we switch from fossil fuels to renewable sources, the price we pay for our energy will reduce over time.

Local power for public services

We are in discussions with a number of councils about how the power produced by our schemes could directly power council buildings, schools, hospitals and even a university campus.

Community Support

We support individuals and groups that live near our projects in the form of sponsorships. Our extensive education programme offers free visits to our Parc Stormy site for schools and community groups within 10km of our projects.

What are Welsh Government doing?

Wales has set ambitious targets to achieve 100% of its electricity production from renewable sources by 2035, with the overall aim of reaching net zero by 2050.

We fully endorse and embrace the recommendations of Welsh Government’s development plan for Wales, which sets out a number of key goals we need to achieve by 2040. Where possible, we make sure all of our plans and proposals take these goals into account.

Wales was also the first country to establish the role of Future Generations Commissioner, ensuring that decisions made today consider the long-term impact on the well-being of future generations.

All of our proposals aim to meet the 7 Well-being goals established by this office, which you can see opposite.

What will happen if we don't act now?

Failure to take action to mitigate the drivers of climate change will result in long term, irreversible changes to our climate system that will have a number of life-changing, negative impacts for future generations.
